Sheep and Wool Festival: Ya Herd?

Yesterday, I attended the annual Connecticut Sheep and Wool Festival. The weather was perfect; it was a gorgeous day. I had such a good time with Anthony of Grocery Stores & Fancy Things and his boyfriend, Dave. They were delightful company.

All day fun things were happening like ox cart rides, and sheep herding. And there were tons of vendors selling fiber, sheep fleece, and yarn. I went a little crazy; it was over stimulation. My current financial state made me set a pretty low budget for myself. I stuck to it. Scooping up only a vibrant sock yarn for myself made by Mocha's Fiber Connection and two large skeins of super soft alpaca by Prime Alpaca. I could have filled a truckload with the yummy local yarns.

Unfortunately my camera has been behaving badly so I have limited, and poor quality photos to share with you. But here they are:

These oxen were HUGE. I can't even tell you how massive they were, except to say that that gentleman next to them was not slight in stature.
They were sheep herding with dogs. I didn't capture the dog though-he was a little bolt of lightening all over that field.

Tons of vendors were selling fleeces and roving. I am not a spinner (yet) and the whole process of making your own yarn still seems magical to me.

Anthony is a beginner spinner. He took a class recently, and purchased a bag of fleece made from a sheep named Tony!

A whole guild was there, I believe for a Spinning Bee.

And me! I liked seeing the lambies. And I couldn't stop opening my bag to peak at all my new fibers. I even picked up a gift for Carolyn of Cover to Cover. Looking forward to my next fiber festival (this was my first). Sadly Stitches East will be the weekend before the election and I will be too busy working to attend.

xo,
Lo

I recognize that hat! So glad you had a fun time. The CT S&W is one of my favorite things about spring. :-)

This was my first S&W festival too. I was only there for a short time unfortunately because I had a prior engagement with some friends down near the coast line. I had a really good time and got some great fleece to play with this summer. Hope you make something great from all that sock yarn you said you got.

One of the drawbacks to vending at the Clermont show was that I missed the CT show and seeing all my friends :o( I'm glad you had a good time, CT is perfect for a first fest!
